'Airy' sound on saxophone problem

Hi,

I play both alto and soprano saxophone. I get the 'airy' sound on both
instruments on the low register, but the problem seems to be more
serious on the soprano sax. I use 3.5 vandoren reed alto and 3 grand
concert on soprano.

Any suggestions are really appreciated. Thx

Hi Ramon,

There are so many variables that can affect the sound that it is hard
to make any suggestions without seeing and hearing you play. For
example are you playing with a jazz or a classical concept of sound?
Are you playing with a "subtone" in the lower register or a "straight"
tone? Are you loosening the embouchure as you go lower in the range?
How much resistance do those reeds provide given the tip opening of
your mouthpiece? Are there leaks in your saxophones? etc., etc.,

My best advice would be to find a good private teacher who can hear
you play and make suggestions as to you playing fundamentals and
equipment.
